Research Councils (the UKRI Funding Service)

Je-S is being replaced by a new UKRI Funding Service. Many funding opportunities are already being run through the Funding Service. By the end of 2024, all Research Council opportunities will be launched and managed only in the Funding Service. Information on each Research Council’s transition planning (including on responsive mode applications) is on the UKRI Simpler and Better webpages: Council transition to the new Funding Service – UKRI

Research Council calls will make it clear whether a proposal is to be submitted through Je-S or through the Funding Service.

Please be aware that The Funding Service is being developed in an iterative way, which means new functionality and features are continuously being introduced and refined. Updates on current and planned functionality are available on the page: Stay up to date about the UKRI Funding Service.

An overview of how to apply for opportunities is available on the page: How applicants use the UKRI Funding Service. Please read the instructions fully for each call, as this can change from call to call. Application guidance is available to applicants within the Funding Service as a proposal is being worked on.

On the old Je-S system, most Research Councils were able to 'return' applications for corrections if minor issues were found during evaluation. We advise applicants not to expect this functionality in the Funding Service, as this is not necessarily available and applications may instead be rejected outright.

As most users will be aware, there is currently no departmental approval step on the platform. UKRI are working on future plans to enable multiple people to edit an application. In the meantime, PIs can share their applications with departments by saving them as PDFs using the ‘print this page’ option in the ‘read application’ view.

Please note that Oxford will not be using the recently announced 'groups functionality' as it is vital that notifications about applications are received by all Research Office (i.e Research Services) account holders.
